वैशम्पायन उवाच उत्तड़कस्तु तथोक्त: स जगाम भरतर्षभ | मदयन्तीं च दृष्टवा स ज्ञापयत्‌ स्वप्रयोजनम्‌,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--भरतभूषण! राजाके ऐसा कहनेपर उत्तंक मुनि महारानी मदयन्तीके पास गये और उनसे अपने आनेका प्रयोजन बतलाया

Vaiśampāyana uvāca: Uttaṅkastu tathoktaḥ sa jagāma bharatarṣabha | Madayantīṃ ca dṛṣṭvā sa jñāpayat svaprayojanam ||

ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า “โอ ผู้ประเสริฐแห่งวงศ์ภารตะ ครั้นพระราชาตรัสดังนั้น ฤๅษีอุตตังกะก็ไปเฝ้าพระนางมทัยันตี เมื่อได้เห็นพระนางแล้ว เขาก็แจ้งเหตุแห่งการมาของตน”
