Educational Q&A

The verse underscores that ethical instruction (dharma) is grounded in recognized authorities—sages and teachers whose wisdom and conduct establish credibility. Naming them signals a trustworthy lineage behind the discourse on dharma.

Vasiṣṭha is enumerating a set of revered figures by name—Kavi, Kāvya, Dhṛṣṇu, Uśanā (Śukrācārya), Bhṛgu, Virajā, Kāśī, and Ugra—identifying them as notable sages/teachers, including one explicitly described as a knower of dharma.
