Adhyāya 57: Tapas–Dāna Phala
On the Fruits of Austerity and Giving
anujānīhi māṃ rājan gamiṣyāmi yathāgatam
The verse highlights dharmic decorum: one should seek proper leave from a rightful authority (especially a king or elder) before departing, expressing humility and maintaining orderly conduct in public and royal settings.
Bhīṣma addresses the king and requests permission to depart, indicating he will return by the same way he arrived—an idiomatic, courteous formula of leave-taking after counsel or discourse.
