Educational Q&A

Large-scale service—feeding others, giving gifts, and protecting people—constitutes high dharma and generates great merit, leading to a blessed posthumous destiny (svarga).

In Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma (Anuśāsana Parva), he enumerates acts of public beneficence and states their spiritual fruit: those who repeatedly feed, donate to, and safeguard many people are described as heaven-bound.
