निर्णये वा महाबुद्धे सर्वधर्मविदां वर । प्रत्यक्षमागमो वेति कि तयो: कारणं भवेत्‌,“सम्पूर्ण धर्मज्ञोंमें श्रेष्ठ महाबुद्धिमान्‌ पितामह! धार्मिक विषयका निर्णय करनेके लिये प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाणका आश्रय लेना चाहिये या आगमका। इन दोनोंमेंसे कौन-सा प्रमाण सिद्धान्त-निर्णयमें मुख्य कारण होता है?”

Vaiśampāyana uvāca: nirṇaye vā mahābuddhe sarvadharmavidāṃ vara | pratyakṣam āgamo veti kiṃ tayoḥ kāraṇaṃ bhavet ||

“ข้าแต่ปิตามหะผู้มีปัญญายิ่ง ผู้ประเสริฐในหมู่ผู้รู้ธรรมทั้งปวง! เมื่อจำต้องวินิจฉัยเรื่องธรรม ควรอาศัยประจักษ์ประมานหรืออาคม? ในสองประมานนี้ อันใดเป็นเหตุปัจจัยหลักในการตั้งข้อสรุปแห่งหลักธรรม?”
