अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)

आराधितो<भूद्‌ भक्तेन तस्योदर्क निशामय । स दृष्टवान्‌ महादेवमस्तौषीच्च स्तवैर्विभुम्‌,उपमन्यु कहते हैं--तात! सत्ययुगमें तण्डि नामसे विख्यात एक ऋषि थे जिन्होंने भक्तिभावसे ध्यानके द्वारा दस हजार वर्षोतक महादेवजीकी आराधना की थी। उन्हें जो फल प्राप्त हुआ था, उसे बता रहा हूँ, सुनिये। उन्होंने महादेवजीका दर्शन किया और स्तोत्रोंद्वारा उन प्रभुकी स्तुति की

ārādhito 'bhūd bhaktena tasyodarkaṃ niśāmaya | sa dṛṣṭavān mahādevam astauṣīc ca stavair vibhum ||

วายุเทพกล่าวว่า “จงฟังผลแห่งภักตินั้น เมื่อผู้ภักดีบูชาด้วยศรัทธา พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงประทานผลให้ เขาได้เฝ้าทัศนามหาเทพ และสรรเสริญพระผู้แผ่ซ่านทั่วสรรพสิ่งด้วยบทสรรเสริญทั้งหลาย”
