मांसपरिवर्जन-प्रशंसा (Praise of Abstention from Meat) / Ethics of Ahiṃsā in Diet and Rite

द्विजेभ्यो वेदवृद्धेभ्य: प्रयतः सुसमाहित: । तेनापोहति धर्मात्मन्‌ दुष्कृतं कर्म पाण्डव,धर्मात्मा पाण्डुनन्दन! जो क्षत्रिय ब्राह्मणके धनका अपहरण न करके न्यायपूर्वक प्रजाका पालन करते हुए अपने बाहुबलसे प्राप्त किया हुआ अन्न वेदवेत्ता ब्राह्मणोंको भलीभाँति शुद्ध एवं समाहित चित्तसे दान करता है, वह उस अन्न-दानके प्रभावसे अपने पूर्वकृत पापोंका नाश कर डालता है

yudhiṣṭhira uvāca |

dvijebhyo vedavṛddhebhyaḥ prayataḥ susamāhitaḥ |

tenāpohati dharmātman duṣkṛtaṃ karma pāṇḍava ||

โอ้ปาณฑพผู้ทรงธรรม! ผู้ใดสำรวมและตั้งจิตมั่นคง แล้วถวายอาหารซึ่งได้มาด้วยกำลังแขนของตนแก่ทวิชผู้เฒ่าแก่ในพระเวท ผู้นั้นย่อมชำระล้างกรรมชั่วที่ได้ทำไว้ก่อนด้วยอานุภาพแห่งทานอาหารนั้น
