Ahiṃsā as Threefold Restraint (Mind–Speech–Action) and the Ethics of Consumption

पिपीलिकस्तु मासांस्त्रीन्‌ कीट: स्यान्मासमेव तु । एतानासाद्य संसारान्‌ कृमियोनौ प्रजायते,पाँच वर्षमक सूअर रहकर दस वर्ष भेड़िया, पाँच वर्ष बिलाव, दस वर्ष मुर्गा, तीन महीने चींटी और एक महीने कीड़ेकी योनिमें रहता है। इन सभी योनियोंमें चक्कर लगानेके बाद वह पुनः कीड़ेकी योनिमें जन्म लेता है

pipīlikas tu māsāṁs trīn kīṭaḥ syān māsam eva tu | etān āsādya saṁsārān kṛmiyonau prajāyate ||

ต่อมาเขาเป็นมดสามเดือน และเป็นหนอนเพียงหนึ่งเดือน ครั้นผ่านวัฏสงสารเหล่านี้แล้ว เขาย่อมกลับไปเกิดในครรภ์แห่งหนอนอีกครั้ง
