The verse is a colophon marking the end of a chapter that teaches the prescribed method of fasting (upavāsa) as part of ethical discipline and the broader dharma of giving (dāna-dharma), emphasizing regulated self-restraint as a supportive practice for righteousness.
This is an editorial/narrative closing line indicating that Bhīṣma’s instructional discourse has completed the chapter titled “Upavāsa-vidhi” within the Dāna-dharma portion of the Anuśāsana Parva.
