Educational Q&A

Before eating, a householder should consecrate a portion of the cooked meal through the prescribed Vaiśvadeva offering, cultivating gratitude, self-restraint, and the ethic of sharing one’s sustenance with the divine order and all beings.

Vāyu is instructing on proper daily conduct (ācāra) for householders, specifying that the Vaiśvadeva rite should be performed using a portion taken from the already-prepared food and offered into the sacred fire according to rule.
