Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the cultural-ethical weight of yajña as a dharmic act: the sacrificial ground is recognized through auspicious signs (fragrance of offerings and visible smoke), suggesting that righteous ritual creates an ordered, welcoming space that guides and reassures those who approach with proper intent.

Aṣṭaka says that the gods informed him about the location of the hosts’ sacrificial ground. He hurried there, and upon perceiving the scent of the oblations and seeing the sacrificial smoke, he felt confident that he had reached the correct place and was comforted by these signs of an ongoing yajña.
