As a colophon, the line chiefly teaches how the Mahābhārata organizes moral and dynastic history: Śakuntalā’s episode is presented not as an isolated romance but as part of the foundational lineage narrative (sambhava) that undergirds later duties of kingship and dharma.
This is the formal closing statement of the chapter: it marks the end of the seventy-first adhyāya within the Śakuntalā episode, located in the Sambhava Parva of the Ādi Parva.
