Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
संह्ाद इति विख्यात: प्रह्मादस्यानुजस्तु यः । स शल्य इति विख्यातो जज्ञे बाह्लीकपुज्रव:
Saṁhrāda iti vikhyātaḥ Prahrādasya anujaḥ tu yaḥ | sa Śalya iti vikhyāto jajñe Bāhlīka-puṅgavaḥ |
ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า “สังหราท ผู้เป็นอนุชาของปรหฺลาดและเลื่องชื่อ ได้อุบัติเป็นศัลยะ ผู้เลื่องลือและเป็นใหญ่ในหมู่ชาวพาหลีกะ”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the epic theme that social and political identity is anchored in lineage: renowned kings are presented as continuations of earlier ancestral lines, linking fame and authority to inherited genealogy.
Vaiśaṃpāyana is recounting a genealogical account: Saṃhrāda, identified as Prahrāda’s younger brother, is said to have been born as Śalya, the foremost ruler among the Bāhlīkas.
