Educational Q&A

The verse models a dharmic approach to knowledge: respectful inquiry and a desire for truthful, comprehensive understanding of the world’s origins and the interrelated classes of beings described in Itihāsa-Purāṇic tradition.

King Janamejaya requests a systematic account of the origins of various beings—gods, demons, celestial musicians and nymphs, humans, Yakṣas, and Rākṣasas—asking the sage to begin from the very beginning and narrate accurately.
