Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that the Mahābhārata functions as a Veda-like source of dharma and artha, and that arranging its recitation for ethically qualified listeners—those who are generous, truthful, and faithful—yields the intended benefit and fosters a disposition toward liberation.

Vaiśampāyana, in the course of presenting the Mahābhārata, praises the text’s sanctity and efficacy, stating that a learned person who facilitates its hearing for worthy people gains the desired result.
