Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 47 — Janamejaya’s Sarpa-satra: Vow, Preparation, and the Onset of the Serpent Offering
अस्तं गन्तुं यथाकालमिति मे हृदि वर्तते । न चाप्यवमतस्येह वासो रोचेत कस्यचित्
astaṃ gantuṃ yathākālam iti me hṛdi vartate | na cāpy avamatasyeha vāso roceta kasyacit ||
“ในดวงใจเรามั่นคงว่าจะจากไปตามกาลอันควร และการอยู่ในที่ซึ่งตนถูกดูหมิ่น ย่อมไม่เป็นที่พอใจแก่ผู้ใดเลย”
तक्षक उवाच
One should act with a sense of proper timing and should not choose to remain where one is dishonored; self-respect and prudent withdrawal are presented as ethically appropriate.
Takṣaka expresses an inner resolve to depart at the right moment, adding that staying in a place where he is treated with contempt would not be agreeable to anyone.
