Educational Q&A

A divine boon is not merely a gift but a binding ordinance: what is asked and granted becomes part of an unalterable cosmic arrangement, including the conditions of death. The verse underscores responsibility in asking and precision in divine justice.

Brahmā (addressed as Pitāmaha) responds to two petitioners, affirming that he will grant their requested boon exactly as spoken and that the stipulated manner of their death will occur accordingly.
