Vasiṣṭhasya śokaḥ, Vipāśā–Śatadrū-nāmākaraṇam, Kalmāṣapādasya bhaya-prasaṅgaḥ (Ādi Parva 167)
दृष्टवा फलस्य नापश्यद् दोषान् पापानुबन्धकान् | विविनक्ति न शौचं य: सोअन्यत्रापि कथं भवेत्,“जिन्होंने देखकर भी फलके पापजनक दोषोंकी ओर दृष्टिपात नहीं किया, जो किसी वस्तुको लेनेमें शुद्धि-अशुद्धिका विचार नहीं करते, वे दूसरे कार्योंमें भी कैसा बर्ताव करेंगे, कहा नहीं जा सकता
dṛṣṭvā phalasya nāpaśyad doṣān pāpānubandhakān | vivinakti na śaucaṃ yaḥ so 'nyatrāpi kathaṃ bhavet ||
เมื่อเห็นลาภอันเย้ายวน เขามิได้แลเห็นโทษที่ติดตามมาเป็นบาป ผู้ใดไม่จำแนกความบริสุทธิ์กับความไม่บริสุทธิ์ยามรับสิ่งใด ผู้นั้นจะคาดหวังให้ประพฤติชอบในเรื่องอื่นได้อย่างไร? ยากจะกล่าวให้แน่ชัด
