Educational Q&A

A dharmic decision should be both thoughtful (buddhi-pūrvaka) and compassionate (anukrośa). Yudhiṣṭhira affirms that aiding a distressed Brahmin is ethically justified when done with clear deliberation.

In the context of the Bakāsura episode, Kuntī has formed a plan to help a Brahmin family suffering under a demon’s exactions. Yudhiṣṭhira approves her resolve, recognizing it as a proper act motivated by compassion for the afflicted Brahmin.
