Ādi-parva Adhyāya 132 — Duryodhana’s Instructions to Purocana at Vāraṇāvata

Lākṣāgṛha Planning

anyāṁś ca śiṣyān bhīmādīn rājñaś caivānyadeśajān | tathā ca sarve tat sarva paśyāma iti kutsitāḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Learning is not validated by a blanket claim like “we see everything.” The teacher’s rebuke implies that true knowledge requires discernment and an answer that reflects careful understanding of what is being tested, along with humility before instruction.

The teacher repeats a question to other students—Bhīma and the rest—and to princes from other regions studying there. They all respond similarly, “We see everything,” and the teacher, finding the response improper, scolds them and sends them away.
