Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the dharmic role of a king as protector: when the ruler departs, dependents feel 'anātha' (unprotected). It underscores ethical responsibility in leadership and the social vulnerability created by the loss of rightful guardianship.

People are lamenting the king’s departure (likely death or leaving the realm). They cry that he has abandoned them, plunged them into lasting sorrow, and left them without protection, asking where he is going.
