महाभाग्यं च नृपतेर्भारतस्य महात्मन: । यस्येतिहासो द्युतिमान् महाभारतमुच्यते,उन भरतवंशी महात्मा नरेशके महान् सौभाग्यका भी मैं वर्णन करूँगा, जिनका उज्ज्वल इतिहास “महाभारत” नामसे विख्यात है
mahābhāgyaṃ ca nṛpater bhāratasya mahātmanaḥ | yasyetihāso dyutimān mahābhāratam ucyate ||
ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า “เราจักพรรณนาถึงมหาสิริมงคลของพระราชาผู้มีจิตวิญญาณสูงแห่งวงศ์ภารตะด้วย—ผู้ซึ่งประวัติอันรุ่งโรจน์เป็นที่รู้จักในนาม ‘มหาภารตะ’.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames the Mahābhārata as an illustrious itihāsa rooted in the fortune and nobility of the Bharata kingly line, emphasizing that moral and cultural authority is carried through remembered history and exemplary lives.
Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, signals a transition into praising and recounting the greatness and auspicious destiny of the Bharata king/lineage, explicitly identifying the forthcoming account as the radiant history known as the Mahābhārata.
