asyātmanā sarvamidaṃ vyāptaṃ tvāsīcchivecchayā guṇasāmye tadā tasminn avibhāge tamomaye
Suta Goswami (narrating the cosmogonic teaching within the Linga Purana)
It grounds Linga worship in metaphysics: the Linga signifies Śiva as the all-pervading Self (Pati) who contains the universe in an undifferentiated state before manifestation.
Śiva-tattva is presented as the immanent Self that pervades all, and as the sovereign will (icchā) that presides over guṇa-sāmya—creation begins not from lack, but from His conscious lordship over prakṛti’s balance.
A contemplative (Pāśupata-aligned) takeaway is to meditate on guṇa-sāmya and the undivided source-state, recognizing the Pashu (soul) as pervaded by Pati while loosening Pāśa (bondage) rooted in tamasic obscuration.
