It frames the inner qualification for true Linga-upasana: the worshipper approaches Pati (Shiva) by loosening pasha—attachments to lineage, social duty as identity, and kama—through vairagya.
By implying that liberation comes from disidentification with worldly bonds, it points to Shiva as Pati—untouched, self-luminous, and the giver of freedom to the pashu when pasha is cut by knowledge and detachment.
A renunciant orientation central to Pashupata Yoga: cultivating vairagya and brahmacharya-like purity so that external puja is matched by inner non-possessiveness and steady contemplation of Shiva.
