Adhyaya 70: आदिसर्गः—महत्-अहङ्कार-तन्मात्रा-भूतसृष्टिः, ब्रह्माण्डावरणम्, प्रजासर्गः, त्रिमूर्ति-शैवाधिष्ठानम्

पाति यस्मात्प्रजाः सर्वाः प्रजापतिर् इति स्मृतः देवेषु च महान्देवो महादेवस्ततः स्मृतः

pāti yasmātprajāḥ sarvāḥ prajāpatir iti smṛtaḥ deveṣu ca mahāndevo mahādevastataḥ smṛtaḥ

เพราะพระองค์ทรงคุ้มครองสรรพประชา จึงทรงได้รับการระลึกนามว่า ‘ปรชาปติ’ และเพราะในหมู่เทพทั้งหลาย พระองค์ทรงเป็นเทพผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุด จึงทรงได้รับการระลึกนามว่า ‘มหาเทวะ’.
