ในศรีกูรมปุราณะ สัฏสาหัสรีสังหิตา ภาคหลัง บทที่ ๓๘ มารกัณฑेयกล่าวว่า “แม่น้ำนรมทาเป็นเลิศในหมู่สายน้ำ ทำลายบาปทั้งปวง ได้รับการสรรเสริญแต่โบราณโดยฤๅษีทั้งหลาย และแม้โดยพระผู้เป็นเจ้าองค์สวายัมภูเอง”
