Related Themes: Garuda Purana śrāddha passages praising piṇḍa-dāna and dāna as highly meritorious (contextual); Following verse 2.5.10–2.5.11 on fixed āśauca durations
This verse states that the merit (puṇya) produced by piṇḍa-offerings, scriptural recitation, and charitable gifts has exceptional efficacy in removing immediate obstacles and adverse conditions connected with the departed.
Within the Preta Kanda context, it implies that the preta’s difficult post-death condition can be eased through timely, properly performed rites—especially piṇḍa, adhyayana, and dāna—which act as quick remedial supports.
Perform ancestor rites with correct timing and sincerity, combine them with charity and recitation/prayer, and focus on generating puṇya through ethical living and giving—presented here as the most effective immediate help.
