Lord Vishnu (narrating to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Afterlife Stage: Svarga

Concept: Tyāga of attachment and steadfast spousal devotion are presented as causes for shared heavenly attainment.

Vedantic Theme: Attachment (saṅga) is a binding force; relinquishing it supports higher states, though still within karma-phala unless oriented to moksha.

Application: Practice non-possessiveness and prioritize dharmic commitments; interpret ‘tyaktvā’ as inner detachment rather than neglect of duties.

Primary Rasa: vira

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: loka

FAQs

This verse presents marital loyalty and steadfast following of one’s husband as a dharmic act linked with svarga-phala (attainment of heaven) for both spouses.

It connects ethical conduct in household life with a post-death destination—svarga—indicating that righteous relational duties can shape the afterlife outcome described in the Preta Kanda.

Cultivate fidelity, mutual duty, and integrity in family life while reducing possessive attachment—living dharma now as the foundation for a peaceful end and auspicious destiny.
