Lord Vishnu (Hari) speaking to Garuda (Khagendra/Vinata-putra)
Concept: In the subtlest ‘portion’ exist multitudes of beings; in each being Hari’s forms are individually present—divine immanence within all.
Vedantic Theme: Antaryāmin and sarvātmabhāva: the Supreme pervades each jīva without division; the infinite is present in the finite.
Application: Practice seeing the divine presence in each being; cultivate non-contempt, compassion, and reverence; use this as a meditation cue (Hari in the heart of all).
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.3.47 (no difference between subtle and vast; contemplation of the inconceivable)
This verse emphasizes the Supreme’s extreme subtlety and immanence—Hari pervades even the finest level of existence, not merely the vast cosmos.
It states that multitudes of beings exist even within the subtlest realm, and that Hari’s forms are present in each individually—pointing to an intimate, indwelling divinity.
Cultivate reverence for life and ethical conduct by remembering that the Divine presence is within every being, encouraging compassion, restraint, and devotion.
