Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda)
Concept: Sense-withdrawal and ego-digestion through structured practice culminate in constant worship of the indwelling Lord; purified bhakti becomes non-toxic and invincible.
Vedantic Theme: Antaḥkaraṇa-śuddhi via dama/śama; īśvara as antaryāmin; bhakti safeguarded by vairāgya and self-mastery.
Application: Adopt a staged regimen: reduce sense-indulgence, practice pratyāhāra-like restraint, observe ego reactions, and anchor daily worship/remembering in the heart (japa + mindfulness) so devotion stays pure under stress.
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: inner (hṛdaya) locus
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: frequent emphasis on antaryāmin-smaraṇa and sense-control as prerequisites for auspicious death and liberation
This verse frames sense-restraint and renunciation of sense-objects as the foundation for stable devotion—without it, ego and agitation can corrupt spiritual practice.
By emphasizing inner worship of the Lord in the heart and disciplined purification, it points to liberation through internal transformation rather than external identity—preparing the jīva for a higher post-death trajectory.
Practice daily sense-discipline (diet, speech, attention), reduce ego-driven habits, and keep a steady inner remembrance of Vishnu—so devotion remains pure and not ‘poisoned’ by pride or craving.
