Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Upāsanā through associated divinities: stuti of Garuḍa functions as stuti of Hari; śravaṇa of Garuḍa-related teaching/hymn yields comprehensive fruits.

Vedantic Theme: Īśvara-anugraha mediated through bhakti and śravaṇa; the principle that devotion to the Lord’s parikara (attendant) leads to the Lord’s favor.

Application: Cultivate devotional listening and praise (stotra/śravaṇa) with focused intent; honor the Lord’s vehicles/attendants as gateways to deeper Viṣṇu-bhakti.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Related Themes: Garuda Purana: sections praising Viṣṇu-nāma, stotra, and śravaṇa-phala; Garuḍa as Hari-vāhana and protector (general internal thematic links).

FAQs

This verse frames Garuḍa as inseparable in devotion from Viṣṇu—praise of Tārkṣya functions as praise of Hari, making Garuḍa-stotra a Viṣṇu-bhakti practice.

Rather than describing post-death travel directly, it emphasizes a devotional method: hearing/reciting sacred teaching (gāruḍam) and stotra leads to “sarvam avāpa”—comprehensive spiritual and worldly attainments, implying upliftment through śravaṇa (hearing) and stuti (praise).

Regularly hear or recite Garuḍa-related stotras/teachings with Viṣṇu-centered intent, using devotion and disciplined practice as a means to cultivate protection, clarity, and steady dharmic living.
