Lord Vishnu (Vāsudeva) speaking to Garuda (Vinata-putra), in the Garuda Purana’s instructional dialogue style
Concept: Prapatti to the pure Vāsudeva destroys samsara’s bondage; moksha is characterized by vimukta-saṅga (freedom from attachment).
Vedantic Theme: Ishvara as the cause of samsara-nivritti; moksha as vairagya-sahita realization/abidance; Bhagavan’s purity as liberating principle.
Application: Cultivate surrender and detachment: daily Vishnu-smriti, reduce raga-dvesha, and practice non-attachment in action while anchoring devotion in Vāsudeva.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (general): Vishnu as deliverer; moksha through devotion and detachment themes in moksha-khanda style passages
This verse presents prapatti to Vāsudeva as a direct means to mokṣa, because refuge in the perfectly pure Lord is said to destroy the root of saṁsāra.
Rather than emphasizing post-death routes and realms, the verse highlights a higher resolution: surrender to Vāsudeva cuts off the continuity of worldly rebirth itself, leading to liberation and detachment.
Cultivate daily remembrance and surrender to Vāsudeva, and practice letting go of clinging (saṅga) in choices and conduct—seeing detachment as a sign of spiritual progress.
