Lord Vishnu (as a protective mantra/benediction within the Vishnu–Garuda dialogue context)

Concept: Divine power can ‘cut’ pāpa (karmic demerit) and restrain हिंसक (violent aggressors), aligning protection with moral order.

Vedantic Theme: Grace (anugraha) complements effort: surrender to Vishnu’s śakti transforms karmic burden and fear.

Application: Use as repentance-plus-protection: pair recitation with concrete ethical repair (apology, restitution, restraint), and seek safety from harm without cruelty.

Primary Rasa: vira

Secondary Rasa: raudra

FAQs

In this verse, the Sudarśana Chakra is invoked as Viṣṇu’s divine instrument that removes sin (pāpa) and provides protection by countering harmful forces.

By emphasizing the cutting away of pāpa, it aligns with the Garuḍa Purāṇa’s broader theme that sin creates obstacles and fear in post-death passages, while purification and divine protection support a safer onward journey.

Use it as a daily protective prayer: cultivate non-violence and ethical conduct (to reduce pāpa) and pair it with sincere remembrance of Viṣṇu for inner steadiness and restraint against retaliatory harm.
