Lord Vishnu (narrating genealogical succession to Garuda)
Concept: Generational causality: each birth arises from prior conditions; actions and responsibilities transmit forward.
Vedantic Theme: Kārya-kāraṇa-bandha (cause-effect linkage) within prakṛti; the witnessing Self is distinct from the chain of becomings.
Application: Reflect on inherited tendencies and consciously shape what is passed on—education, ethics, and restraint—so the ‘next link’ improves.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.138.44-48 (same genealogical register)
This verse preserves dynastic succession—linking rulers across generations—supporting Purāṇic history, dharma-oriented kingship ideals, and traditional lineage memory.
It does not describe the soul’s post-death journey; it functions as a genealogical record, naming successive descendants (Śīghra → Maru → Prasuśruta → Odāvasu).
Use it as a model for careful record-keeping and honoring ancestry—studying one’s lineage with humility and maintaining continuity of values across generations.
