Parīkṣit’s Inquiry into Vṛtrāsura’s Bhakti and the Beginning of Citraketu’s Trial
atha kāla upāvṛtte kumāraḥ samajāyata janayan śūrasenānāṁ śṛṇvatāṁ paramāṁ mudam
This verse shows that when a child is born at the destined time, family and community naturally feel great joy—yet in the broader narrative this joy can later become a source of attachment and suffering if not rooted in devotion.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī narrates this verse to Mahārāja Parīkṣit while describing the events surrounding Citraketu and the birth of a son.
Celebrate life’s blessings with gratitude, but remember that worldly joy is temporary; anchor family happiness in dharma and bhakti so it does not turn into binding attachment.
