Bhṛgu Tests the Trimūrti; Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna Visit Mahā-Viṣṇu and Recover the Brāhmaṇa’s Sons

द्विजात्मजा मे युवयोर्दिद‍ृक्षुणा मयोपनीता भुवि धर्मगुप्तये । कलावतीर्णाववनेर्भरासुरान् हत्वेह भूयस्त्वरयेतमन्ति मे ॥ ५८ ॥

As explained by Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī, the secret import of these words spoken for Arjuna’s edification is as follows: “You two, who have descended along with your kalās, your personal energies, should kindly return to Me after killing the demons who burden the earth. Please quickly send these demons here to Me for the sake of their liberation.” It is stated in Śrī Hari-vaṁśa and in the Second Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam that the path of gradual liberation passes through the intermediate station of Lord Mahā-Viṣṇu’s abode, outside the eighth shell of the universe.

FAQs

This verse states that the Lord brings about His descent (and the descent of His portions) to protect dharma and to remove the demonic burden from the earth.

He did so to arrange a divine meeting with Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna and to reaffirm their mission on earth—protecting dharma by destroying the asuric burden—before sending them back to complete it.

Protecting dharma can mean safeguarding truth, compassion, and spiritual integrity—acting responsibly, resisting harmful influences, and aligning daily choices with devotion and ethical duty.
