Garga Muni Names Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma; the Butter-Thief Pastimes; Yaśodā Sees the Universe in Kṛṣṇa’s Mouth
इत्थं विदिततत्त्वायां गोपिकायां स ईश्वर: । वैष्णवीं व्यतनोन्मायां पुत्रस्नेहमयीं विभु: ॥ ४३ ॥
itthaṁ vidita-tattvāyāṁ gopikāyāṁ sa īśvaraḥ vaiṣṇavīṁ vyatanon māyāṁ putra-snehamayīṁ vibhuḥ
Although mother Yaśodā understood the whole philosophy of life, at the next moment she was overwhelmed by affection for her son by the influence of Yoga-māyā. Unless she took care of her son Kṛṣṇa, she thought, how could He be protected? She could not think otherwise, and thus she forgot all her philosophical speculations. This forgetfulness is described by Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura as being inspired by the influence of Yoga-māyā ( mohana-sādharmyān māyām ). Materialistic persons are captivated by Mahā-māyā, whereas devotees, by the arrangement of the spiritual energy, are captivated by Yoga-māyā.
This verse says Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Controller, expands His Vaiṣṇavī māyā so that Yaśodā’s awareness of His divinity becomes covered by pure motherly affection, allowing intimate līlā.
So that her relationship with Him could remain in vātsalya-rasa (motherly love) without awe and reverence, enabling the sweetness of Vraja-līlā to unfold naturally.
It teaches that love and devotion can be deeper than intellectual understanding—cultivate heartfelt service and relationship with God, not only theological analysis.
