सभया: स्त्रीगिर: श्रुत्वा पुत्रस्‍नेहशुचातुरौ । पितरावन्वतप्येतां पुत्रयोरबुधौ बलम् ॥ १८ ॥

sa-bhayāḥ strī-giraḥ śrutvā putra-sneha-śucāturau pitarāv anvatapyetāṁ putrayor abudhau balam

ครั้นได้ยินถ้อยคำอันหวาดหวั่นของสตรีทั้งหลาย วสุเทวะและเทวกี ผู้ร้อนรนด้วยความรักต่อลูก ก็ถูกความโศกครอบงำ เพราะไม่รู้กำลังแท้ของบุตรทั้งสอง จึงเศร้าอาลัยยิ่งนัก
