इत्य् आदिमहापुराणे आग्नेये जीर्णोद्धारकथनं नाम सप्तषष्टितमो ऽध्यायः भूषिताञ्च यजेद् गुरुरिति घ, चिह्नितपुस्तकपाठः अथ अष्टषष्टितमो ऽध्यायः यात्रोत्सवविधिकथनं भगवानुवाच वक्ष्ये विधिं चोत्सवस्य स्थापिते तु सुरे चरेत् तस्मिन्नब्दे चैकरात्रं त्रिरात्रञ्चाष्टरात्रकं
ity ādimahāpurāṇe āgneye jīrṇoddhārakathanaṃ nāma saptaṣaṣṭitamo 'dhyāyaḥ bhūṣitāñca yajed gururiti gha, cihnitapustakapāṭhaḥ atha aṣṭaṣaṣṭitamo 'dhyāyaḥ yātrotsavavidhikathanaṃ bhagavānuvāca vakṣye vidhiṃ cotsavasya sthāpite tu sure caret tasminnabde caikarātraṃ trirātrañcāṣṭarātrakaṃ
ดังนี้ ในอัคนีปุราณะ อันเป็นมหาปุราณะดั้งเดิม บทที่หกสิบเจ็ดชื่อว่า “ว่าด้วยการบูรณะของเก่า (จีรณโธธาระ)” ได้สิ้นสุดลง. (มีบทอ่านต่างว่า “และครูอาจารย์พึงบูชาเทพผู้ประดับแล้ว”). บัดนี้เริ่มบทที่หกสิบแปด “ว่าด้วยวิธีแห่งเทศกาลแห่ (ยาตรา-อุตสวะ)”. พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า “เราจักกล่าววิธีแห่งอุตสวะ; เมื่อเทพได้ตั้งไว้โดยชอบแล้ว พึงปฏิบัติ และในปีนั้นเอง (อาจจัด) หนึ่งคืน สามคืน หรือแปดคืน”.
