Sage Parāśara (narrating to Maitreya)

Avatara: Krishna

Purpose: To conceal the protective transfer of the seventh conception by letting the world believe Devakī miscarried, thereby thwarting Kaṃsa’s interference.

Leela: Loka-rakshana

Dharma Restored: Preservation of the divine birth-mystery and protection of the avatāra’s associates from tyrannical power

Concept: Worldly narratives (‘people will say…’) can mask divine workings; tyranny breeds fear, but dharma may advance through protective concealment.

Vedantic Theme: Dharma

Application: Do not judge spiritual realities by public rumor; practice patience, discretion, and steadfastness when dharma must be protected under pressure.

Vishishtadvaita: The Lord’s providence can employ veiling (tirobhāva) without compromising truth—divine intention governs appearances for the devotee’s protection.

FAQs

It frames a deliberate public explanation—people believe Devakī miscarried—while the divine plan protecting Vishnu’s descent proceeds unseen.

He presents Kaṁsa’s fear-driven oppression (imprisonment and obstruction) as the visible cause that shapes public rumor, contrasting human tyranny with divine orchestration.

Vishnu’s sovereignty is implied: even under a king’s violent control, the incarnation narrative advances through concealed, providential means.
