Droṇācārya’s Tapas and the Manifestation of Śiva: The Birth-Grant of Aśvatthāmā (अश्वत्थामा-अवतार-प्रसङ्गः)
ततश्च सोत्तरा जिष्णुवधूर्विकलमानसा । कृष्णन्तुष्टाव लक्ष्मीशन्दह्यमाना तदस्त्रतः
tataśca sottarā jiṣṇuvadhūrvikalamānasā | kṛṣṇantuṣṭāva lakṣmīśandahyamānā tadastrataḥ
అప్పుడు అర్జునుని భార్య ఉత్తరా మనసు కలవరపడి, ఆ అస్త్రదాహంతో దగ్ధమవుతూ శ్రీకృష్ణుని స్తుతించసాగింది. లక్ష్మీదేవి కూడా ఆ అస్త్రతాపంతో దగ్ధమై ఆయననే స్తుతించింది.

It highlights śaraṇāgati (taking refuge): when the mind is shaken by fear and karmic threat (symbolized by the astra), the devotee turns wholly to the Lord in praise, and that surrender becomes the doorway to protection and inner steadiness.
Though Kṛṣṇa is named in the narrative, the Purāṇic teaching aligns with Saguna-upāsanā: devotion to the manifest Lord—praised with faith in His saving power—mirrors how a devotee approaches Śiva in the Liṅga for grace, protection, and the removal of distress.
In moments of danger or agitation, practice japa and stuti: steady the breath, remember the Lord, and repeat a protective mantra such as the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with bhakti, cultivating refuge and calm.
