नभगोपाख्यानम्
Nabhaga-Upākhyāna: The Account of Nabhaga and Shiva-Jñāna
महाज्ञानी भव त्वं हि सविप्रो नभगं द्रुतम् । गृहाण वस्त्विदं सर्वं मद्दत्तं कृपयाधुना
mahājñānī bhava tvaṃ hi savipro nabhagaṃ drutam | gṛhāṇa vastvidaṃ sarvaṃ maddattaṃ kṛpayādhunā
Suta Goswami (narrating the episode; the direct speaker in the verse is inferred as an elder/giver addressing Nabhaga)
Tattva Level: pashu
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; the verse functions as a didactic moment where worldly wealth is subordinated to brahma-jñāna and vipra-dharma, framing prosperity as an instrument for dharma rather than bondage.
Significance: General Śaiva teaching: dāna and right conduct, when aligned with Śiva’s grace, purify the paśu and prepare for higher realization.
Offering: naivedya
The verse links true greatness to mahājñāna (liberating knowledge) and compassion, showing that spiritual maturity includes both inner realization and dharmic conduct, not mere possession.
In the Shaiva Purana framework, the capacity for jñāna and compassionate giving is understood as Shiva’s anugraha (grace). Such purification supports worthy Linga-worship by reducing attachment and strengthening devotion and discipline.
The practical takeaway is dana with humility and a jñāna-oriented life—supported by daily Shiva-smaraṇa and mantra-japa (especially the Panchakshara, "Om Namaḥ Śivāya") to transform wealth into a means of purification.
