Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Highlights external śauca as a support for internal śauca; such ordered preparation is taught as a means to make the body a fit instrument for Śiva’s worship and for receiving grace.
It teaches śauca (purity) and disciplined preparation as the foundation for Shiva-upāsanā—purifying the seat and body symbolizes making the mind fit for receiving the grace of Pati (Lord Shiva) in Shaiva Siddhanta.
Before approaching the Linga (Saguna Shiva worship), the devotee prepares externally—clean seat, clean cloth, proper attire—so that the ritual becomes a focused offering rather than a casual act, aligning body and mind toward Shiva.
It indicates preliminary observances for worship or japa: cleanse the place of sitting, wipe/clean the body with a dedicated cloth, tie a doubled cord on the arm as a vrata-marker, and wear clean garments before beginning mantra-japa or dhyāna.
