व्यासशौनकादिसंवादः | Vyāsa–Śaunaka and the Sages: Opening Dialogue of the Kailāsa-saṃhitā
प्रणिपत्य महात्मानं पाराशशर्य्यं महामुनिम् । शिवानुरागसंहृष्टमानसं च तमब्रुवन्
praṇipatya mahātmānaṃ pārāśaśaryyaṃ mahāmunim | śivānurāgasaṃhṛṣṭamānasaṃ ca tamabruvan
ఆ మహాత్మ మహాముని పారాశర్యునికి ప్రణామం చేసి, శివానురాగంతో హర్షించిన మనస్సుతో ఉన్న మునులు ఆయనను ఇలా సంభోదించారు।
Suta Goswami (narrating the scene to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Models the bhakti-ethic of praṇipāta (prostration) to a Śiva-bhakta guru; in Siddhānta, guru-bhakti is a conduit for Śiva’s anugraha.
The verse highlights the Shaiva virtue of guru-vandana (reverent prostration) and shows that true spiritual inquiry begins with humility and a mind uplifted by devotion to Pati—Lord Shiva.
By emphasizing śivānurāga (loving devotion to Shiva), the verse supports Saguna upāsanā—approaching Shiva through devotion and reverence, which commonly expresses itself in Linga worship and honoring Shiva’s presence through sacred forms.
It suggests beginning practice with pranāma (prostration) and bhakti-bhāva; as a Shaiva takeaway, one may bow, then mentally remember Shiva with the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” before asking or studying sacred teachings.
