Vali’s Pursuit of Mayavi and the Cave Episode
मायावी नाम तेजस्वी पूर्वजो दुन्दुभेः सुतः।तेन तस्य महद्वैरं स्त्रीकृतं विश्श्रुतं पुरा4.9.4।।
māyāvī nāma tejasvī pūrvajo dundubheḥ sutaḥ | tena tasya mahad vairaṃ strīkṛtaṃ viśśrutaṃ purā || 4.9.4 ||
దుందుభి యొక్క జ్యేష్ఠపుత్రుడు ‘మాయావి’ అనే తేజస్సుగలవాడు ఉండెను; పూర్వం స్త్రీకారణంగా అతనికి వాలితో మహత్తరమైన, ప్రసిద్ధమైన వైరం ఏర్పడింది।
'When my brother came back to the town after killing the enemy, I offered as usual my salutations to him. But he did not bless me wholeheartedly.
The verse cautions that adharma can arise when desire and possessiveness (especially over women as objects of rivalry) drive relationships into hostility.
Sugrīva introduces Māyāvī and explains the background of his enmity with Vālī, setting up the events that follow.
Not a virtue but a warning: uncontrolled passion and pride can destroy alliances and provoke lasting feud.
