Sugriva’s Reassurance and Lakshmana’s Counsel
धर्मज्ञस्य कृतज्ञस्य सङ्ग्रामेष्वनिवर्तिनः।उपपन्नं च युक्तं च सुग्रीव तव भाषितम्।।।।
dharmajñasya kṛtajñasya saṅgrāmeṣv anivartinaḥ | upapannaṃ ca yuktaṃ ca sugrīva tava bhāṣitam ||
హే సుగ్రీవా! నీవు ధర్మజ్ఞుడవు, కృతజ్ఞుడవు, యుద్ధంలో వెనుదిరగనివాడవు; అందుచేత నీ మాట సముచితమూ యుక్తమూ అయింది।
'O best of monkeys! barring you and my elder brother, who else would be capable of speaking this way about themselves even when you are aware of other's faults?
Dharma is measured by consistent virtues—dharma-knowledge, gratitude, and steadfastness make one’s words trustworthy (satya-worthy).
Lakṣmaṇa validates Sugrīva’s statement by pointing to Sugrīva’s proven character.
Kṛtajñatā (gratitude) joined with courage—moral reliability demonstrated in both speech and action.
