The Dundubhi Episode and the Proof of Rama’s Prowess
tataḥ samudro dharmātmā samutthāya mahābalaḥ | abravīd vacanaṃ rājan asuraṃ kālacoditam ||
'O king, then the powerful and righteous king of the ocean came out and spoke to the demon (Dundubhi) who was driven to death by fate.'
Dharma is portrayed as cosmic order: even powerful beings act according to right limits, while Kāla (time) drives the arrogant toward their destined end.
In the account of the Dundubhi episode, the Ocean rises and addresses the demon who seeks conflict.
Righteous restraint—strength guided by propriety rather than impulse.
