Application: At dawn/dusk and noon, pause distractions and keep conduct clean; wash hands/mouth after eating before touching others, entering kitchen/altar, handling lamps, or approaching cows/elders/priests.

FAQs

They refer to the twilight junctions of the day—dawn (prātaḥ-sandhyā) and dusk (sāyam-sandhyā)—times traditionally reserved for restrained conduct and worshipful observances.

Because ucchiṣṭa (contact with food remnants) is treated as a state requiring cleansing; cows, brāhmaṇas, and fire are ritually sensitive and revered, so one should approach them only in a clean state.

It underscores mindfulness and reverence in daily life: maintain cleanliness, observe appropriate times for restraint (sandhyā and midday), and treat sacred beings and symbols with due respect.
