Concept: Ahaṅkāra arises from Mahat and remains dependent on it; recognizing dependence loosens ego’s claim to autonomy.

Application: When ego flares, trace it back to buddhi: choose sattvic discernment (viveka) and offer agency to Vishnu through nāma-smaraṇa.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: celestial_realm

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A luminous figure of Mahat appears as a vast crystal intellect-sphere, and from its surface three smaller orbs bud forth like moons—each tinted by a guṇa. A subtle veil of Pradhāna surrounds Mahat like a cosmic shawl, while Mahat itself wraps the newborn ahaṅkāra orbs in a gentle, protective glow.","primary_figures":["Mahat-tattva (cosmic intellect)","Threefold Ahaṅkāra (Vaikārika, Taijasa, Bhūtādi)","Pradhāna (primordial veil)"],"setting":"Celestial mindscape with geometric lotus-mandala grids and faint script-like constellations.","lighting_mood":"cool divine radiance","color_palette":["crystal white","pale gold","vermillion","smoky blue","midnight violet"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: central Mahat as a large embossed gold-leaf mandala with gem-like inlays; three smaller guṇa-orbs around it, each crowned and ornamented; Pradhāna as a dark velvet aureole; rich red-green borders, lotus medallions, traditional iconographic symmetry.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: translucent Mahat sphere with fine stippling; three delicate orbs emerging like buds; soft washes of color, refined linework, airy negative space, subtle lotus filigree, poetic calm.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: Mahat as a circular yantra with bold outlines; three attendant forms representing the ahaṅkāras; Pradhāna as a surrounding band; earthy pigments, temple-wall texture, stylized eyes and ornaments.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: Mahat as a central lotus-disc; three guṇa-vines curling outward into floral borders; deep blue background with gold highlights, intricate lotuses and paisleys, devotional ornamental rhythm."}

FAQs

It refers to the three modes of ego in Sāṅkhya-style cosmology—sāttvika (vaikārika), rājasika (taijasa), and tāmasika (bhūtādi)—from which mind/senses and the subtle elements proceed.

It presents a tattva-sequence: from Pradhāna arises Mahat, and from Mahat arises Ahaṅkāra; it also notes an 'envelopment' relation—Mahat is within/covered by Pradhāna, and Ahaṅkāra is within/covered by Mahat.

It highlights hierarchical dependence: later principles operate within the scope of earlier, subtler causes—suggesting that individual ego is conditioned by cosmic intellect, which itself is conditioned by primordial nature.
