Unspecified in the provided excerpt (a questioner addressing a respondent)

Concept: Right questioning (jijñāsā) is the doorway to efficacious practice; attainment becomes ‘fruitful’ when aligned with proper method and intention.

Application: Ask for clarity before adopting any spiritual practice: what is the means, what is the discipline, what is the intended transformation; then practice consistently.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A royal inquirer sits respectfully before a luminous sage in a forest hermitage, palms joined, eyes bright with curiosity. Palm-leaf manuscripts and a small altar hint that a sacred instruction—about how attainment becomes truly fruitful—is about to unfold.","primary_figures":["a questioning king (or noble seeker)","a venerable rishi-teacher"],"setting":"forest āśrama with kusa grass seats, sacrificial fire, and hanging water pots; distant glimpse of a sacred lake suggested as foreshadowing","lighting_mood":"forest dappled","color_palette":["sandalwood beige","leaf green","saffron ochre","smoke gray","vermillion red"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: a seated rishi with serene face and raised teaching hand, opposite a crowned king in añjali-mudrā; gold leaf halo around the sage, rich red-green textiles, gem-studded ornaments, small yajña-kuṇḍa with stylized flames, ornate floral border, South Indian iconographic symmetry.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate guru-śiṣya dialogue under a flowering tree, delicate brushwork and refined profiles; cool greens and soft ochres, distant hills and a faint lake shimmer, lyrical naturalism, fine textile patterns, gentle atmospheric perspective.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold black outlines, warm red-yellow-green pigments; the sage with large expressive eyes and calm smile, the king kneeling with folded hands; stylized forest motifs, lamp and fire elements, temple-wall aesthetic composition.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: devotional teaching scene framed by intricate lotus and creeper borders; peacocks and floral motifs around a central guru-king dialogue, deep indigo background with gold highlights, ornate textile patterns, symmetrical decorative layout."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: तल्लभ्यते = तत् + लभ्यते. चैव = च + एव. तन्मे = तत् + मे. कौतुकादेव = कौतुकात् + एव.

FAQs

It asks for a complete explanation of the means of attainment (upāya) and how the attained goal becomes phala-prada—capable of yielding concrete spiritual or worldly results.

Not in the verse alone; it refers generically to “that” (tat). The referent must be identified from the surrounding dialogue in Adhyaya 32.

It models sincere inquiry: asking respectfully and seeking a thorough, systematic answer rather than a partial or vague explanation.
